When did you join ABN AMRO?

Valentines Day 2011. It must be love as I’m still here nearly eight years later.
Before joining ABN AMRO, I spent nine years at GMAC Commercial Finance in Brighton and 18 months at a small construction firm until recruitment picked back up in the Invoice Finance world.

What is your role here at ABN AMRO?

I’m a Relationship Manager (RM) in our Financial Restructuring and Recoveries team (FR&R Officer). My role is to manage clients in distress once they are transferred to the FR&R department. I also assist other RM’s throughout the business when their clients are in need of some extra attention. The aim of our department is to have the additional expertise required to give these clients the assistance needed to support them through these difficult times and also be able to execute closer monitoring to protect ABN AMRO from loss when things go wrong.

I am also part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team at our Haywards Heath office, which although time demanding is very rewarding personally and allows me to really feel we can help make a difference to our local community as a business. This is highlighted by the huge amount of funds we raise for local charities each year. I’m also an active member of the UK Diversity and Inclusion Committee, something which is also very close to my heart.

What’s the biggest value-add your role brings to clients?

Our department is unique from many of our competitors in as much as we have this dedicated team dealing with clients’ financial restructuring and recovery. The clients are normally very appreciative of the service levels provided and the speed of decision making available to them in their times of need and for us to reach the correct outcome for all involved. Our internal clients (the RM’s) also have the comfort of knowing we are here to help support their clients and take the strain away from their already busy workloads. Overall protecting ABN AMRO’s position and minimising loss adds value to all involved, including all existing and future clients.

The CSR side of my career with ABN AMRO is also beneficial to clients as they know they are dealing with a company who are passionate about the local community, staff well being, the environment and supporting local charities.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The role has many challenges, however I like a challenge! It is great to be involved with so many different situations and interact with people across so many industries and walks of life; life in FR&R is rarely dull.

Where do you live?

In Portslade – Just outside Brighton on the South Coast, with my partner and two children (23 and 14 - so hardly children anymore). I love being near the sea and feel a little bit lost whenever I am too far inland!!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to be surrounded by people, lots of family get togethers and socialising with friends. As a family we have games nights every now and then, rather than sitting in front of the T.V, carrying on the family traditions from my parents and siblings.

What is your favourite film?

I find this really hard to answer, I love watching films and can’t really pick a favourite, I have a very eclectic taste from Horror to Musical and everything in between. As with a lot of things for me, this is mood dependent. I loved Annie when I was young and then also watched it with both of my children many, many times as they were growing up. It’s still a film I go back to for the feel good factor and nostalgia (the original not the modern retake) J

What is your favourite kind of meal?

I switch between Mexican and Thai, depending on my mood.

What was your earliest ambition?

My earliest ambition was to be famous… Then I realised that I don’t actually like being the center of attention, or public speaking, and had no real talent, so gave up on that pretty quickly.  I once told my teacher that I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I just wanted to be happy, I stand by that now I think.
